The major part of the following list of ferroelectric and antiferroelectric compounds was compiled by Subbarao (1973). A small additional list updating the table to 1975 has been added. References for this final section are quoted here; otherwise the original table of Subbarao should be consulted. Most solid solutions have been excluded. The table lists the highest Curie temperature T c(°C) and spontaneous polarization P s (at temperature C) when these are known. In many cases P s was obtained from hysteresis loops and represents a minimum value (see text). A question mark following a material indicates that ferroelectricity or antiferroelec-tricity is suspected, but has not been well established, for this material. The list of liquid crystals has been omitted from the original table of Subbarao for reasons outlined in the text.
